Good review Jason. I like the El Dorado 12 and 15 expressions but they are on the sweet end though. The 21 year is too sweet in my opinion and more like a rum liqueur.
Best rum for $30
perfect timing this was on my list. I was watching videos on rums I wanted for a week trip. Im new to rum and want a sipping rum. Ive tried lots of Scotch and Canadian whiskies, but I want to discover rum. what would you recommend? also I live in Saskatchewan where it’s expensive for alcohol, so that being said something “affordable”? this bottle is 40 dollars he btw.
one of my fav rums. Thanks for the review Jason, like the shirt..nice for the summer.
I’ve been enjoying the 21yo, it’s excellent stuff. Ralfy highly recommended it. Just picked up a bottle of the 15yo @ a nice discount.
Probably the best value Rum there is for the price, maybe even the best value spirit there is for the price.
If ya get the chance you should try the 15 yr…It’s sweet like it’s younger sibling, but has a wonderful ‘spiciness’ that makes it even better than the 12 yr.
Nice review, Jason. I recommend any whisky drinker try some rums – especially rums 10 years and older. They offer a lot of flavor and complexity at prices much lower than similarly aged Scotches. I picked up a bottle of Royal Jamaica 10 year rum when our cruise stopped in Jamaica a few weeks ago. At around $30 it’s a wonderful sipping rum that’s very nice neat.
My favorite is the Ron Zacapa XO, Christmas cake soaked with rum.
I haven’t yet gone to rum beyond Screech and Sailor Jerry… For summer drinks I usually just gravitate to light bourbons and Gin & tonics. Maybe I should give this Eldorado a look…
I agree Jason this is a great sipping summer rum. I also love Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. That’s a bit sweeter but great as well.
Thanks for sharing, Jason. Your insights are helpful in guiding some of my purchases as I was actually just considering this one in the local shop the other day.
You should do more reviews of sipping rums.
I have the 8 year old at home – never seen the 12 before. Nice review, nice orange monster, too! you look like you are enjoying summer!
sweet, short,compact. Good review.
dressed for the occasion. only missing the straw hat!
