Great review I totally agree this is an overrated whiskey imo. For the price point Elijah Craig or Eagle Rare are better. Keep it up. Cheers.

Whisky Neighbour says:

Great review. I have not had the pleasure yet, but I totally agree with your single barrel comments. Usually there is lots to talk about though so I’m surprised it didn’t pull you strongly one way or another, even in a poor direction. Anyway, take care.

OJ4HIRE says:

Great review , I have 1 bottle and will not buy again, I get the Old Ezra 101 which is a 7yr old from heaven hill and cost like $17-$23 I was not impressed with Henry McKenna for the $30 price tag

foodquig says:

I recently received a sample of Henry McKenna 10… Now I need to try it!

WhiskyJason says:

Single Barrels can be disappointing – but I just think the new Henry McKenna is not as good as as the old juice

Oklahoma Kid says:

Great review as always!!!   I’ve wondered about this brand…it comes from a great distiller BUT I never hear anyone in Oklahoma talk about it????  One of those brands that makes you go: Hmmmmmmmmmmm.    Single Barrel:  I’m still in love with Jack Daniel’s SB-Barrel Proof-132.   Jack and George Dickel#12…..it’s just something about those Tennesse brands…maybe the Lincoln County method that I enjoy.Cheers from Oklahoma!!!

Kevin Underwood says:

This is one of my favorites that I always keep in stock. My current bottle is one of the best I’ve had – very similar in profile to the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B517 (Whisky Advocate’s current bourbon of the year). Keep the reviews coming!

Bourbon Blind says:

I’ve had some wild variations on HMC10 bottles, Great review John!

newmennium says:

McKenna is ok, you have to find a good barrel though…

Rick C. says:

Great bourbon for the money and it will always have a home in my cabinet. Extra points now that they replaced the screw top with a cork.

PreppinShootinLivin says:

I really enjoy this whiskey…especially for around $30, give or take. And being single barrel offerings it’s fun to try different bottles and see what kind of differences you can get between them. If this was a more expensive whiskey I don’t think I would want to risk a single barrel offering for fear of wasting too much money on a bad barrel.

Clint McCoy says:

I have a single barrel Four Roses that is completely off the normal taste profile and not something I like. I can sure see how this bottle could be off what you expected.

Whiskey Experience says:

Another great honest review! I agree with other commenters that Eagle Rare 10 would be my preference over HM10 any day of the week.

BTW, you forgot the wedding ring again 🙂

B Lam says:

Decent juice for the money, and if your lucky sometimes you get an outstanding bottle.

buckshot1333 says:

My Henry McKenna improved GREATLY once it had time to open up. I didn’t care for it at all when I opened it because it had a lot of that medicinal taste that you talked about. But now the brown sugar and fruity notes have really stepped up front. Cheers!
