**A Whisk(e)y school?

Yup. Here are a few things we believe.

** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.

Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.

Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”

It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.

** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”

Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.

The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.

** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.

So, there is actually some controversy about Pamela Heilmann. She isn’t the first female master distiller in Kentucky since prohibition. There was actually a woman of the name of Marianne Barnes. Marianne Barnes was named master distiller of a new distillery named Castle and Key before Pamela Heilmann was named at Michters. Marianne Barnes was in training to take over the master distiller position at Woodford Reserve before she left to take the helm at Castle and Key. However, when she was named, they weren’t distilling. Also, there is a woman by the name of Joyce Nethery. She was building a distillery in Shelbyville Kentucky called Jeptha Creed and was distilling a bourbon in Wisconsin before either of these two were named master distillers. So, the first female master distiller to actually distill whiskey in Kentucky is Pamela Heilman, but the first female master distiller named was Marianne Barnes, and the first woman who should have called herself the first female master distiller was Joyce Nethery. And, they aren’t the first women to be a female master distiller in Kentucky since prohibition. They are the three first female master distillers in the history of Kentucky. Yeah, we’re real progressive…

Anyway, having had that incredibly complicated mess, I’m SO F*CKING PUMPED to have some women in the bourbon industry. Not only because we need more diversity in bourbon, but because I have had the bourbon that these women have made, and they are delicious. Plus, Castle and Key and Jeptha Creed are some of the most beautiful distilleries I have ever seen. In my opinion, they even surpass Woodford Reserve. And Woodford had millions of dollars poured into it by Brown-Forman to be a tourist trap. Anyway, I’m a huge fan of what these ladies are doing and I’m really excited for the future of bourbon.

Oh, yeah, and ball busting blah blah.

Hello love this and whiskey biscuits. I have seen a couple of articles on bourbon pairings and Girl Scout cookies but some of them are only high end offerings. I was wondering if you would do something with respect to bourbon/Girl Scout cookie pairings by with bourbons that are generally in the mid grade pricing ($100 or less a bottle). I know that pricing is location dependent, however, a $100 or lower price point should provide some decent maneuver space in recommendations.

Again we love your channel and watch it as we drink scotch, bourbon, et all to see if we are tasting/getting what you all are.

Thanks Rex and Daniel for answering my previous comment! What you’re saying makes more sense. It’s not an issue of whether whiskey is bad if watered down by the distiller, but rather ‘robbing’ tasters the opportunity for them to discover their favorite water/whiskey ratio for themselves.

Love your videos! I buy one bottle of whiskey a month to prevent my finances from drying up, and I’ll be getting Monkey Shoulder in February thanks to your recommendation! Keep up the good work and congrats on all the new subscribers.

Hey Daniel, are there any brands that are experimenting with barrels made out of different types of wood? I think it would be cool to age a whisky in a maple barrel or ash or something. Is there any reason other than accessibility and tradition that oak is the wood most brands use to age their whisky in? Does the volume of a pour also affect the whisky taste? I’ve had stingy pours at bars of a whisky and not thought much of it then had it again with a generous pour and found it to be great!

If I could make a suggestion, you are constantly trying scotch whisky, American whisky and venture into bourbons, Japanese every so often.
