Review: Costco’s American Vodka

Korea has a reputation for expensive booze (save soju). In my pursuit of delicious distilled spirits, I opted to recently purchase Costco’s American Vodka. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since I’m not that much of a vodka drinker, but knowing how I enjoy the bourbon, I was willing to give this a shot.

Yangjae Costco serves up both of Costco’s vodkas. The European Vodka (distilled five times) is made in France, but the American Vodka (distilled six times) is made in California. Internet research leads me to believe (if the sleuths are correct), that this particular bottle was distilled by the former owners of Grey Goose.

The vodka is incredibly smooth with a hint of citrus (at least that’s what I thought). I really enjoyed it and at less than W16,000 for 1.75 liters, it is a bargain. If you enjoy vodka, straight or mixed, this is not a bad entry.

Do you like vodka? If so how: straight or mixed?

Just bought a bottle today for $13.  I guess it helps when you live in the plains.  Everything here is pretty cheap.  Favorite vodka drink is vodka and cranberry juice.  If you haven’t tried it already, DO IT!, even if you don’t like vodka.

cranberry and vodka is the shit!

Akuma says:

Both the Kirkland brand vodka’s are legit.

Yay, I know it’s two years since this was posted but I was searching for reviews to see if I was just crazy or is this product just this good. I have used stoli straight and for martinis and smirnoff for mixed drinks. The american is an insane value…the french is comparable with many widely available boutique brands but at half the cost. In private parties, were I can get away with a blind taste testing, about 90% prefer the costco brand over any of the major labels and about 65% over very pricey boutiques. I run a private small dinner catering business and my clients stock the finest liquor for their personal consumption. I have seen a number of clients turn to vintage decanters so they can serve the Costco brand without sharing that secret with their guests. It is a brilliant product.

I work for Costco liquor in Canada , that is not made by or campared to the grey goose, it’s the French vodka that is comparable to the grey goose. That American one you just tried to comparative to Tito’s vodka from Texas.

MotoLupo says:

Great review. Vodka and tonic is preferred yet vodka anything works usually.

Moscow Mule is a good vodka based drink.

Great mixer base for large crowd. Had a great time with kirkland vodka!

Jake Thompson says:

Haha before you said it I was going to say, screwdrivers. I usually drink my vodka straight, but mixing it with orange juice is the way I go when I mix it. For the price, that bottle is huge compared to my Russian vodka I have here. Might look into trying based on your review. Thanks!

Once in a blue moon is acceptable behavior in Korean culture! So..

Vodka & Tonic

Vodka and Rockstar!
Red Bull, Monster, and the energy drink from a soda stream all will suffice.

How is this compared to smirimov?

Salty Dog: Vodka, Grapefruit Juice, Salt on the Rim . . .smack, yum!

Legion of Weirdos says:

NOT Grey Goose… although the ingredients are French. A little-known company called WX Imports in Novato California supplies Costco with their store label vodka. A friend of mine used to work there. They also have several awesome wines, spirits, and beers under their own labels. They’re at wineryexchange dotty-dot-dot com.
