**A Whisk(e)y school?

Yup. Here are a few things we believe.

** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.

Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.

Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”

It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.

** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”

Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.

The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.

** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.

There’s an old saying, “In business, it’s not what you know… It’s who you know.”

I think Daniel didn’t answer the question that was asked. Regardless of the license, I feel it is misleading to call your company a Distillery or say “produced by Foo Distilling” on the label if you dont have a still or even a rack house. But if they are honest about it there is nothing wrong with sourced whiskey.

High West had an interesting white oat-based (maybe 100% oat) spirit, after getting to try it I’ve wanted to get some and have a go at aging it. Very oily and blueberry-filled iirc.

What was pretty cool is that Jack released an unaged rye at the beginning, a rested rye after 2 years in barrels, then the full rye now so you could compare throughout the aging process. I enjoyed the comparison. Also, when you take the Jack distillery tour you can smell the sugar maples all around you so it’s neat to taste that from the charcoal in the whiskey.

Hey guys, I’m looking for your review of laphroaig 10. It’s the first Islay I have tried. I’m only 22, and have tried a few when I can afford at a bar, or buy a bottle. Glenmorangie original, monkey shoulder (from your advice), glenfiddich 12… I’m thinking about another islay and would think about spending a little more, I’m just looking for advice. And for someone who works at a bottle shop in Australia thank you for some of your facts which I have stole.

I would say that they do the charcoal filtering to make it “smooth”, I got my conclusion from drinking normal Jack Daniels and Gentleman Jack at the same time, the second even tho the only difference in the making is the doble filtering it is way “smoother” than the normie Jack

Every Jack Daniel’s product I’ve had has a pretty pronounced artificial banana note in the nose. I don’t know what it is about their process, but it’s always there. (Isoamyl acetate is the specific compound.)

I think the problem with the way Jack Daniels and Maker’s Mark have been making attempts at innovation is that they’re uncomfortable to make a significant step away from the things they’re famous for. It seems like they try to make something slightly different, and then it ends up being too timid to be a new thing, but too unusual to be put on the same level as the original expressions.
